Lifting of the pantograph in Stadler trains with the help of innovative EKOM compressor aggregates

The Slovakian Railway Company (ZSSK) has recently deployed new high-capacity KISS trains from the manufacturer Stadler in order to modernize and make the entire Slovak railway infrastructure more efficient. Three train sets are currently running on the busy lines of western Slovakia Bratislava - Trenčín and Bratislava - Nové Zámky. However, few people know that these train sets also contain products from the EKOM company.

At the end of 2021, ZSSK concluded a contract with the company Stadler Polska (belonging to the Swiss group Stadler Rail) and bought four double-decker trainsets, which are supposed to strengthen regional transport. Trains KISS from the manufacturer Stadler offer a modern information system, LCD panels, cameras, Wi-Fi for passengers or a passenger counting system. They will transport 611 people and in locations where it is possible, they will offer a speed of up to 160 kilometers per hour. They are also adapted for people with disabilities - they are adapted for barrier-free boarding, they are air-conditioned with space cooling and heating and allow the transport of at least 15 bicycles.

The company EKOM from Piešťany, as a manufacturer of oil-free compressors, supplied these trains with 8 units of compressor aggregates - model DJ40-36 VDC. Aggregates (2 units in one train set) are placed inside the train in a special technical cabinet and are used to lift the pantograph in case the set is disconnected from the power supply from the catenary line. The aggregates are powered by the 36V DC battery of the train set and meet all the technical and safety requirements of the set manufacturer and international railway standards.

The mentioned product was prepared for the STADLER company in different voltage versions. It is used and assembled in several models of train sets that are in operation not only on Slovak, but also on other European railways.

The diversification of regional transport with the help of three new high-capacity KISS trains is only the beginning of the efficiency of the transport infrastructure. By the end of November 2024 at the latest, a fourth KISS train set should be added to Slovak tracks. As a company from Piešťany, we are happy that these trains also run through our spa town, and we were able to contribute to setting a new quality standard in rail transport
